PBH Opens Drive To Recruit Social Service Workers

Declaring that from 24 to 35 Boston settlement houses "which have traditionally relied on University students for a large part of their staffs are now seriously hindered by a lack of personnel," Richard W. Kislik '48, Chairman of the Phillips Brooks House Social Service Committee yesterday announced that the committee has begun a drive to enlist 300 students for settlement house work.

Among the jobs for which volunteers are needed are the supervision of group discussions, game rooms, boys clubs, and athletic groups; settlement house office work; and driving cars for the Red Cross during that organization's current drive.

To illustrate the variety of work for which PBH is expected to supply volunteers, Kislik pointed out that his committee has even had a request for someone skilled in "O-guage" model railroading. He said that those interested in the work should leave their names at the PBH office. Kislik also announced that PBH is planning a weekly program about its activities for WHCN.
