No New Phones Till July, Officials Say

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Student 'phone-seekers will get the busy signal for some time to come, it was learned last night, as Cambridge dial officials announced that no new instruments can be installed in College rooms for at least another five months.

Main reason for the current delay in installation, business department heads said, is the acute shortage of central office facilities, which are now handling a greater volume of calls than ever before.

By July, the telephone company hopes to have a new central office in operation, to be designated either "University" or a second branch of the present "Eliot" exchange. At that time, the large back-log will be served as quickly as the speed of installation permits.
