Gov Replaces Economics as Popular Field

Soc Rel Takes Third; Arts Attract Many

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

There's a minor study revolution going on in the ranks of undergraduates. For the first time in many years, Economics courses have been forced out of their first-place position in popularity as a field of concentration--and the encroacher is Government.

Actual figures show that 637 Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors want to concentrate in Government, 590 others in Economics, and 479 more in Social Relations.

Economics Leads In Clase

But Economics still has the edge in classroom popularity. 2280 undergraduates fill classes on that subject, while Government, next-place contender in this division, draws a very close 2246. Things aren't quite so crowded in Bio-chemistry, where only 11 College students are enrolled, or in Indic Philology, which has one undergraduate signed for each of its three courses.

Arts Gaining

There's also a trend developing in the field of arts that is shown graphically by the fact that a recent high of 2430 undergraduates are now taking courses in the Classics, Fine Arts, Philosophy, and Music. Romance languages, mostly because of distribution requirements, attract 1375 hopeful linguists.
