James F. Hornig Appointed New Student Council Member

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

James F. Hornig '50 of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Winthrop House was appointed to the Student Council at its regular meeting last night in Phillips Brooks House.

The new representative was selected under a section in the Council's constitution which allows for the appointment as members of up to three undergraduates who have "outstanding ability, special skills, or particular knowledge complemenary to the function of the Council."

Worked on Education Report

Hornig served last year as vice-Chairman of the Council committee which produced the report 'Harvard Education, the student's View.' Because of his work in this line, his function on the Council will be as a co-chairman of the education committee.

A National scholarship holder, Hornig has also worked under the Council on the Combined Charities drive and, in his freshman year, as a member of the Union Committee.

In addition to the new appointment the Council passed a motion to continue its partial sponsorship of the Salzburg Seminar until March, 1950, and selected David C. Poskanzer '50 to serve with Council president Edward M. Burke '50 on the executive board of the Seminar.

The Council also tabled a motion to recodify the rules which a new club must pass in order to be officially recognized. Under present rulings, a new group must only submit a constitution and prove that it is financially solvent.

The motion was worked complexly and was tabled until the Council could straighten out some of the languages.
