HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
It took the Student Council three and one half hours of wrangling, 11 motions, and frequent consultation of Roberts' Rules to table a proposal for a Class of 1950 dance last night.
The proposal was defeated earlier in the evening, but when it came up for second vote it was given a simple majority. Since Council rules require a two-thirds majority, it was left for final settlement until next Monday.
Counter-proposals which were extensively debated were for a Class smoker, and for no Class social event, in spite of the provisions of the Paul Report, which require at least one a year for class unification. The reason given for the latter proposal was that the Council could not afford to underwrite a possible losing dance or smoker.
