The Sphinx Club will become Harvard's eleventh final club as soon as it changes its name.
On Friday the Faculty Committee on Student Activities checked the Sphinx's constitution and finances and voted that the group had fulfilled all requirements except for its name. Phoenix SK--the "S" stands for Sphinx--has claimed duplication of titles.
The Committee empowered Associate Dean Robert B. Watson '37 to approve the group as soon as a new name is submitted to him. The 25-man club is now considering several titles and will soon meet to decide on the final name.
Ten club presidents will also meet soon to decide whether they will include "the Sphinx" in the inter-club agreement, which says that no final club can elect a member of another final club. Whatever they decide, the Sphinx will still be considered a final club in that it will accept no one from the other clubs.
