Army handed varsity fencers their second straight loss, 14 to 13, Saturday in the Blockhouse. At the same time Captain Jan Jertson's freshman fencers scored their first win of the season beating the Clark varsity in Worcester, 20 to 7.
The varsity took the epee matches from the Cadets, 5 to 4, but lost to Army in both the foils and sabers. Two innovations were tried in the meet. The order of weapons was changed so that the epee, easy to judge with the electric epee, came last. A two touch lead was required to win in both the foils and sabers.
The varsity summary: Foils: Frankmann 2-1; Sollee 1-2; Martin 1-2. Saber; Gay 2-1; Carter 2-1; Pierce 0-2; Levine 0-1. Epee; Smith 2-1; Overholser 2-1; Morton 1-2.
