Yardling Nine Faces Brown In Battle of Lefthanders

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Brown freshmen and the Yardling nine will meet at Providence this afternoon in what figures to be a duel of southpaws.

Dave Trayner, Bruin mound ace, and Scott Ricketson, who will start for Dolph Samborski's team, both throw from the port side.

Brown will provide the freshman club with its first collegiate opposition. All four of the Yardlings' previous wins came at the expense of prep school teams. Brown, too, has fattened its record by playing high school teams. The Bruin cubs have a two and nothing showing for the season.

Samborski plans to start his regular lineup. He calls first baseman Jim O'Brien "a greatly improved ball-player," and concedes that it will be difficult to oust either O'Brien or third sacker George Chase from their respective positions. Stocky Chuck Wade has played consistently good ball behind the bat.

The starting outfield has also pleased Samborski. Russ Johnson, Captain Bob Smith, and John Collins have all been hitting well and playing above average games in the field.

John Canepa, peppy leadoff man, paces the team in batting. Canepa has been hitting at a .467 clip.

Brown's best hitter is left fielder Stan Skypeck, whose work afield has matched his heavy clothing.
