"Women are the traditional guardians of culture," Bernice B. Cronkhite, Dean of the Radcliffe Graduate School, said yesterday morning at the Annex's 72nd formal opening in the First Congregational Church.
Both Dean Cronkhite and President Wilbur K. Jordan, the second speaker, agreed that although it is possible to go through college by attending lectures and taking notes, Radcliffe expects each student to take an active part in her own education.
"Don't demand entertainment from your courses," Wilma A. Kerby-Miller. Dean of instruction, warned students at a meeting following the formal ceremony. "There are intellectual fads for courses which are not suitable for everyone," she explained.
Dean Kerby-Miller then pointed out that 44 percent of Radcliffe made dean's list last year and almost 50 percent of the senior class graduated with honors.
Elizabeth K. Heaton '51, president of the Student Government, announced new arrangements for Council meetings. Twenty students, selected at random, will receive personal invitations before the regular Monday open meetings.
