The white-haired man could barely contain himself yesterday afternoon. "Boy oh boy, those follows showed real sisu, boy oh boy." And that was about all he could say.

The man was Jaakko Mikkola and sisu is Finnish for "guts." Mikkola's excitement came from the results of yesterday's all-University cross country meet.

Most of the runners turned in outstanding performances and there were a couple of pleasant surprises. For the record, Dave Gregory, Emil SanSoucie, Dave Cairns, Hugh Maguire and Leo Carroll finished in that order.

The real surprise came in the number six spot, where Bruce Phillips ran the best race of his life to finish only a little over a minute behind the first place Gregory. Harold Gerry, Bob Swett, Clarke Coggeshall, and Dinny Engs followed him.

In the freshman race, run at the same time, Dave Ingle easily beat the rest of the field. He was followed by Al Blaylock, Bill Chrisman. Marshall Childs, Frank Nahigian, and Frank Hardy.
