CCNY Files Probe To Open Monday

An investigation of charges that the scholastic records of City College basketball players were falsified will open Monday. A special committee appointed by New York's Board of Higher Education begins a series of closed hearings, which is expected to last about ten days.

Howard C. Kelly, chairman of the committee, has asked Harry N. Wright, president of City College, to produce the records of all members of last year's championship basketball squad for the hearings.

The disclosure that the records of basketball stars Alvin Roth and Herbert Cohen had been faked came Monday when Judge Saul S. Streit sentenced gambler Salvatore Sollazzo and 14 basketball players from colleges in the New York area for their roles in fixed games.

"We intend to find out who altered the transcripts," Kelly told reporters Wednesday. "When we catch that culprit, we shall find out if he did it on an original impulse or if some superior put pressure on him. In that event, we certainly will not spare the superior."
