Student Politico Push 'Ike,' 'Taft' Start Clubs Earl

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Although the National conventions a still eight months off, local Taft at Eisenhower supporters are taking a cue from the activity of national organizations on behalf of their favorites. The organization of an "Ike for President Club, under the leadership of members the Law School, was announced sever weeks ago, while this past Tuesday notice rabid G.O.P.'s invited those interested to participate in a "Taft of President" Club.

The original announcement of the Eisenhower group was addressed to all the of either party who could stomach neither Taft nor Truman, but its leaders are, at present planning primarily for the National Young Republican Convention which will convene in May to choose its own candidates for the G.O.P. nomination. The Ike suporters feel that an endorsement by the Young Republican would materially better his chances copping the nomination at the party convention in early July.

Expect H.Y.R.C. Backing

They expect the backing of the H.Y.R.C. which in 1948 was able to put through the nomination of the late Senator Arthur A. Vandenberg at a convention held here in Cambridge and attended by nearly 60 representatives of Your Republican groups all over the counted. They expect even less trouble this yet since Ike is a stronger candidate this was the able but aging Vandenberg. Furthermore virtually all liberal support, the feel, will fall to the Eisenhower force where in '48 this suport was divided between Stassen, Dewey, Warren, and Vandenberg.

Taft Group Finds Little Response

The Taft group thus far has arouse little response but is still going ahead with a plan to coordinate its activities with similar groups from other college. At present, these plans are rather vague although it seems very likely that the too will be pointing for the convention this spring. It has been noted that Senator Taft has been especially energetic. In his attempt to organize backing among the Young Republicans although this group has almost always support the more liberal element in its party.
