Hollywood goes on trial tonight at the Law School Forum when Al Capp, Faye Emerson, Spyros Skouras, and Bosley Crowther discuss the topic "Are Movies Better than Ever?" The Forum begins at 8 p.m. at Cambridge High and Latin.
Miss Emerson, winner of Variety's "Top TV Star of 1950" award, and one time actress, will speak on television's influence on the motion pictures, and the possible closer cooperation between the two industries. She can contrast the two from the point of view of a participant in each.
Cartoonist Capp, creator of the comic strip "Li'l Abner," will evaluate the effect of the comics on the movies. As a former Hollywood scenario writer, he should be able to compare the typical movie and comic strip audience.
In representing the standpoint of the movie industry, Twentieth Century Fox's president Skouras is expected to talk on the movies as art. His studio produced "All About Eve," Academy Award winner.
A man who has seen as many movies as anybody else, New York Times movie critic Crowther, will bring an objective opinion to the discussion. He will probably compare the present movie product to that of the past, and predict what sort of show Hollywood will come up with next.
