To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
I have discovered, over the years (1886-1951), that an excellent plan for instituting a much-needed reform is by way of the columns of the Harvard CRIMSON
This morning I am remonstrating in protest against a stupid Harvard tradition of requiring the resignation of an officer of instruction of administration when he has reached the age of 66 years above, or thereabouts--regardless of his (or her) physical and mental condition.
Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of visiting the new research building at the Massachusetts General Hospital in company with Dr. James H. Means '07, Jackson Professor of clinical Medicine, acting as guide. I learned with real regret that Dr. Means, having reached the retiring age according to the Harvard tradition, is leaving his post at the very moment of the installation of this new, important venture in which he has performed so important a part, and at a time when he is apparently at the zenith of his powers. By this act a useful member is lost to the "Harvard family," as Dr. Means has accepted an important post in the Medical Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Francis C. G. Woodman '88
