Football Captain Carroll Lowenstein's successor has not yet been selected, and will not be until after Lowenstein has been inducted, Coach Lloyd Jordan said yesterday.
"No, we haven't chosen anyone," Jordan said. "After all, Carroll hasn't left yet.
"When we lose our captain, then we'll pick up a new one," he added.
Jordan's statement apparently left open the possibility that the 150-pound tailback might be rejected for military service because of his ankle injury.
But Jordan quickly cut off hope along these lines. "I think," he said, in answer to a direct question, "that Carroll has used up his deferment."
Lowenstein, along with most other students, was allowed to complete the 1950-51 college year.
