Columbia Cuts Maid Service for Rooms

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Columbia drastically cut maid services in its men's dormitories last week. This was the second curtailment of maid services in less than a year at Morning side Heights.

Under the new system, maids will make up beds weekly instead of daily and will change linens and give the room a thorough cleaning on that day.

The last curtailment of maid services came December, 1951, when six day a week cleaning was cut to a Monday-to-Friday schedule.

According to the directors of the University Men's Residence Halls, the service curtailment will offset an increase in residence hall expenses. The new expenses resulted from a five-percent across the board wage increase granted over the summer to all Columbia maintenance employees.
