Army's Dick Shea led the Cadets to a decisive Heptagonal Meet Championship Saturday at West Point. Harvard finished eighth in the ten team meet.
Shea wiped out the Ivy League and all-time Army mile record with a 4:13.4 performance. His time bettered the old Ivy League mark of 4:16.5, set by former Crimson star Alex Northrup in 1938.
The Crimson picked up 15 1/2 points in the meet, with Dave Cairns turning in an outstanding two mile time of 9:22. He was only able to finish second, however, despite his top performance.
Pete Dow got a second in the 100 yard dash, and Charlie Durakis finished fifth in the high hurdles. The sprint relay team finished fourth, mostly on the strength of a fine anchor leg by Dow. The remaining Crimson points were scored by Phil Pratt with a fourth in the discus and by Bob Mello, who tied for third in the pole vault.
