Joseph K. Serhant '56 of Berwyn, Ill., died early yesterday morning in Massachusetts General Hospital.

Serhant-except for a few brief moments-had been unconscious for ten days since he was found in his car Wednesday evening, Oct.21.

An autopsy revealed that an infection, coupled with a heavy bump on the head, probably caused Serhant's death. Apparently he had carried an infection for several days and then passed out in his car, striking his head.

Relapsed Wednesday

He showed signs of recovery early last week, but suffered a serious relapse on Wednesday.

His father, who arrived here last week, new back to Illinois yesterday. Funeral services for the Dunster House sophomore will be held Wednesday.

According to police, he was found slumped over the wheel of his car in a Mellon St. garage. Police immediately summoned the Cambridge Fire Rescue Squad, which unsuccessfully attempted to revive Serhant. He was then taken to Cambridge City Hospital and from there transferred to Massachusetts General.

According to medical authorities, Serhant had been carrying what is believed to be virus infection and a high temperature for several days and was in a weakened condition when he struck his head in the car.
