Wyman Quits Top HUERA Position

Burr Hall janitor Elwyn Wyman resigned yesterday after serving less than a month as president of the Harvard University Employees Representative Association.

The unexpected resignation was presented to a special executive board meeting yesterday and accepted immediately. It came in the middle of the first push in two years by the A.F. of L. to bring the independent HUERA into its fold.

Wyman would not explain his move except to say he was "unqualified for the post."

Mrs. Helen Maynard, elected vice-president last month, automatically became acting president, but she said last night she would not remain in the post without a vote of confidence from the entire union body.

In the meantime, the executive board will be concerned largely with the threat from the A.F. OF L., Francis McNamara, secretary of the HUERA, admitted yesterday.

"We'll call another meeting of the board within a day or so, to discuss election procedure," he said. "But we definitely know the A.F. of L. is making an all-out drive. They are our number one problem right now."
