J.V., Freshman Teams Net Decisive Ice Wins

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The two non-varsity hockey teams scored victories yesterday as the newly-formed J.V. sextet whipped Holy Cross, 9 to 2, at Worcester in its first game of the season, and the Yardling squad defeated the GBI champion, Belmont High, 4 to 1, in a slow game on the new rink.

The J.V. team, hampered by penalties and poor organization in the opening period, went until the third period before displaying its power and scoring five straight goals against the Crusaders to win 9 to 2. The next tentatively scheduled game for the squad is on Saturday against Amherst.

The Yardling six, playing on soft ice, fought off the GBI champions for the first two periods and then exploded for four goals in the final stanza. The dull game was highlighted by the exceptional goaltending of Belmont's goalie, and the Crimson's first score, a well-placed shot by first-line center Willy White. The other freshman goals were scored by Chuck Papalia. Tim Herrick, and Ed Burlingame.
