The United States Weather Bureau yesterday forecasted below average temperatures and above normal precipitation totals for the whole New England area during the period, March 15 to April 15. The expected cold weather follows a trend of recent years.
The Weather Bureau also announced that this winter's temperatures averaged 4.6 degrees higher than the 70 year normal. It was the sixth consecutive winter with unusually high temperatures.
Charles F. Brooks, Director of the Blue Hills Observatory, said yesterday that warm winds from the Pacific and the shift of the cold center from the North Pole to the Eastern Hemisphere are responsible for the warm winters.
