After a week of intensive practice at Pinehurst, N.C., the golf team again heads south this weekend to meet its first opponent of the season, a traditionally potent West Point squad.
Making the trip are returning lettermen Tod Cooney, Bruce Thurmond, Jim Jones, Doug Boyd, Pete Malkin and Captain Jack Brophy.
Seventh man on the trip is sophomore Bill McAllister, who will play either number two or number three man in the Army match. While his Pinehurst, McAllister played what his teammates described as sensational golf. This week at the Charles River course McAllister shot a 35 on the back nine to tie Cooney, the varsity's number one man. Cooney reached the semi-finals of the New England Amateur Championships last year.
After Saturday's match at West Point, the team travels to Princeton, where it meets a strong Orange team Monday. Also making the trip with the varsity is Coach Josh Williams.
Following the Army and Princeton matches the team returns to Cambridge and should have a breather when it meets Boston University Wednesday.
