Crimson Third Crew Defeats Amherst Varsity on Charles

The third varsity heavy crew, stroked by sophomore Ed Mathews, finished a third of a length ahead of Amherst's varsity eight yesterday afternoon on the ruffled Charles River Basin. The race was rowed over the Henley distance of a mile and five-sixteenths.

Though not officially entered, the second freshman heavy crew, with Nick Platt stroking, actually crossed the line first, a length ahead of the varsity heavies. The third varsity 150 boat, also unofficially entered, finished third, a few feet back of the varsity heavies. Amherst was fourth.
