HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Liston Pope, Dean of Yale Divinity school, last night said he was pleased with the Harvard Divinity School's decision to admit women as regular degree candidates next fall.
"We've had women students here since 1932," said Pope. "I'm glad Harvard is getting on the bandwagon. It's a forward-looking move."
Yale has close to 50 women enrolled in its Divinity School this year, considerably more per class than the eight Harvard plans to admit this fall.
In praising Harvard's move, Pope stressed the great need for women as directors of religious education in churches.
