President Wriston to Retire From Brown

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. Henry M. Wriston, 11th president of Brown University, will retire shortly.

Although no definite date for Wriston's retirement has been given, Harold B. Tanner, university chancellor, expressed hope yesterday that a new president would be chosen by June. Wriston was appointed in 1936.

Explaining the reasons for his action, Wriston said that all Brown presidents are eligible for retirement at the age of 65, and that he reached that age last year.

He warned that "all colleges are expecting a big surge of students within the next few years and the men who will have to operate under these conditions ought to have an opportunity to start making policy now."
