Hustle Keynote Of 16-2 Season

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tomorrow afternoon, just before 3 p.m., Coach Norman Shepard (above right) will lean into a huddle of varsity baseball players and drawl, as he has before every game this season, "This is the one we want, boys--now let's go get it." A moment later, the best Harvard baseball team in over 20 years will take the field against Yale in a game which will decide the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball championship.

One of the principal reasons for the Crimson's success has been hustle, and hustle is a hard word to define. It means racing onto the field after each inning (above left). It means taking an extra base on a slow throw from the outfield (left). It means staying ready even if you're not in the game (bottom left). The result: opponents' depression (below right) and a 16-2 win-loss record.
