Big Red Crushes Varsity Wrestlers

A powerful Cornell varsity crushed the Crimson wrestling team, 29-5, Saturday, at Ithaca. The Big Red ran away with the meet from the very first match, as the varsity was never in contention in its opening contest in the newly organized Ivy Wrestling League. The team's record is now two wins and one loss.

The only Crimson win, in what Coach Bob Pickett called "the team's toughest meet of the year," was in the unlimited class, where Pete Morrison took his second straight pin of the year, dropping Crimson in 7:11 with a half-nelson.

In the lighter weights, the varsity was clearly outclassed, as Tatsuo Arima at 123, John Winthrop at 131, and Phil Andrews at 137 lost by pins and Captain Phil Burnaman at 147 dropped a 5-2 decision.

The 157 pound division saw Joe Goodman pinned by Campbell in 4:09 with a hammer and half nelson. The closest match of the day was the battle in the 167 pound class, which Bob Gilmor dropped in a 5-4 decision to Lynch.
