Two deans of the School of Education yesterday praised a new teaching fellowship program at the Phillips Andover Academy as instrumental in drawing better men into the profession.

The plan allows college graduates planning to teach one year of experience teaching at Andover, before entering graduate school, according to John M. Kemper, Headmaster at Andover.

Francis Keppel '38, Dean of the Faculty of Education, predicted the program would be useful because it would weed out those who found "by experience that teaching was not their line."

Judson T. Shaplin, Associate Dean of the Faculty on Education, said the fellowship program would "work in well with our graduate program." He added, "This is important because schools are having a hard time finding qualified teachers."
