The charge that someone in the Cambridge city government is covering up for gamblers will be aired at the weekly meeting of the City Council at 4:30 p.m. otday.

City Manager John J. Curry '19, Police Chief Patrick F. Ready, and Sgt, Daniel J. Cosgrove have been told to appear at the meeting to testify about a statement by U.S. District Court Judge William T. McCarthy that Cosgrove, formerly on the vice squad, was transferred to night duty because he arrested certain members of a gambling syndicate earlier this year.

Councilor Charles A. Watson, who proposed the hearings, said last week that Ready and Cosgrave had made "conflicting statements." Cosgrove, according to Watson, denied Ready's claim that he had asked for transfer.
