CRIMSON to Open Competition For Freshmen Wednesday Night

For Those Who Survived Exams

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Competition on all four boards of the CRIMSON will open at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday for those freshmen who survived their first Harvard hour exams. Upperclassmen from the College and Radcliffe are also invited to this orientation meeting.

The competition is not cut-throat in that those trying out for the paper do not compete against each other, but try to prove their journalistic ability or business acument against CRIMSON standards.

Since there are now only two members of the Class of '59 on the news board, there is an excellent opportunity for any sophomores who want to try out in this competition. But since there is no limit on the number of those elected, capable freshmen have an equal chance of becoming editors as upperclassmen.

Members of the news board interview professors, write sports stores, and cover news which has a bearing on University life. They must be able to discover news as well as write articles.

Editorial Board

The editorial board's primary function is writing editorials on College, national, or international questions. Its artistic side rests on play, concert, book, and art reviews. Its members also write short feature stories on topics of general interest. Cartoonists are especially urged to attend this meeting.

Candidates for the photo board gain proficiency in taking pictures and in darkroom work. No previous experience is required.

The business board trains its candidates in handling newspaper advertising.
