Yale Downs Varsity Golfers, 5-2; Freshmen Bow to Bullpups, 6-1

If the golf matches in New Haven yesterday proved anything, it may be that the Yale freshmen are relatively better than the Yale varsity. Both teams won easily over their Crimson counterparts, but whereas the varsity could only manage a 5-2 triumph, the Bullpups took their match 6 to 1.

The sole Crimson wins in the varsity match came at the third and fourth positions, where Bill McAllister beat the Ellis' Dave Clovis one up and Perry Driggs bested Tony DeLude 4 and 3. Otherwise, the picture was universally black, with most of the matches turning into routs.

The disaster went as follows. The Elis' number one man, Ned Vare, easily defeated Brock Stoke 6 and 5. The Elis' number two man, Pete Nisselson, came from behind to win one up over Lou Klein. The Elis' number five man, Franz Dolt, routed Roger Fleischman 8 and 7. The Elis' number six man, Jim McCullough, routed Dave Beadie 8 and 6. And the Elis' number seven man, Bob Clark, downed Al Steinert 4 and 2.
