Nine Wins Three Straight Games, Overcoming B.C., Tufts, Amherst

Bob Kessler picked up two more wins this week as the baseball team downed Boston College, Tufts, and Amherst to boost its record against college competition to 17 wins and 4 losses.

Kessler did not finish Wednesday against Boston College, but Dom Repetto relieved to hold down the 10-2 win that clinched the Crimson's second straight Greater Boston League title. Matt Botsford paced the attack with a single, double and triple to drive in two runs. John Getch drove in three runs with a single and a double.

The Crimson exploded for four runs in the third when John Simourian reached first on an error, Botsford tripled, Getch singled, and Walt Stahura and Bing Crosby contributed consecutive triples. Boston College's pitcher tired in the ninth and the Crimson added six more runs.

It took the varsity ten innings to down Tufts, 11 to 7, on Friday. Repetto started, but poor fielding limited his effectiveness. The Crimson jumped to an early lead when Tom Bergantino belted a three-run homer to center in the second, and added a single run in the fifth and three in the sixth. But when Bob McGinnis relieved Reppetto in the sixth, the varsity had only a 7-6 edge, and Tufts tied it in the seventh. The Crimson threatened in the eight and ninth, but did not score until the tenth when Matt Botsford's three run home run paced a four run rally. McGinnis set down Tufts in the tenth to gain the win.

Kessler did not allow an earned run in winning 3 to 2 at Amherst Saturday. The home team tallied in the third and fourth on Crimson errors, but the Crimson scored three times in the eight for the victory.
