House Football Practices Begin

Dunster, preparing for defense of an unprecedented fourth consecutive Straus trophy, indicated yesterday that its strength may continue indefinitely. Of 58 upperclassmen taking physical examinations at Dillon Field house for house intramural football, 20 were Funsters.

Over 200 house athletes are expected to play in the league, which began operations officially yesterday afternoon with the first of five scheduled physical examination sessions, followed by the first practice.

A few of the squads, like Eliot (above), ran through some of their plays, but for the most part yesterday's drills were devoted to conditioning and fundamentals. There was little contact work as most of the teams were not yet large enough to split into squads.

Last year's football league champion, Winthrop, did not field a squad for yesterday's practice. Leverett and Lowell also failed to participate in the opening practice.

Last fall, Dunster entered its final game undefeated only to be upset by a scrappy Puritan eleven, 13-6, on a last period tally by Al Lubetkin. This victory gave Winthrop first place in the league with a record of six wins against one loss, while Dunster dropped to second on a record of five victories, a loss, and a tie.

Adams followed with a 3-1-2 record, while Kirkland finished fourth with a 3-4 record. Dudley topped the second division with a 2-3-2 score, while Eliot tied for sixth with Leverett, both with 1-4-2 records. Lowell's 1-5-1 record gave the Bunnies undisputed possession of last.

In post-season play with Yale counterparts, only champion Winthrop could manage a win, defeating Calhoun 13-7. Eliot, however, held Johathon Edwards to a scoreless tie.
