Eliot To Use Ford Grants In Eliot Visit

House Plans Dinner In Honor of Writer

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

T. S. Eliot '10, Anglo-American poet and Nobel Prize winner, will visit Eliot House through funds provided by the Ford Foundation, Walter J. Kaiser '54, Allston Burr Senior Tutor, announced yesterday.

Concurrent with Eliot's visit, the House will hold a large-scale dinner in honor of the poet's coming 70th birthday, he revealed.

"We wanted to have Eliot come due to his past connection with, and interest in the House," Kaiser stated. The poet lived in Eliot while delivering the Charles Eliot Norton lectures in 1932-33, and is a distant relation of President Eliot, for whom the House is named.

In addition, a "man important in public life" will visit Eliot House during the spring, Kaiser said, but final plans will not be announced until final arrangements can be made.

Plans Now Completed

Kaiser's announcement completed the diversified House plans to use the Ford grant. Four writers and poets, Eliot, Joan Bennett, Robert Frost '01 and Charles P. Snow have accepted invitation to speak and to visit at Houses this year.

Both Dunster and Kirkland will utilize their donations of $2400 for the arts. During reading period, Kirkland will present films dealing with famous artists, and may sponsor a jazz forum. Dunster is continuing its drama workshop, and plans to set up a room for the encouragement of the visual arts.

Students' writings will be published by Lowell and Kirkland. A board of judges will pick six senior essays for printing in the Lowell magazine.
