J.V. Notches 4-1-1 Season Record

Paced by a fast backfield and a strong defensive line, the junior varsity football squad turned in a 4-1-1 record this fall, a better showing than any other J.V. team in several years. Sparked by a sophomore backfield, provided by last year's outstanding freshman team, the J.V.'s provided several good prospects for the varsity.

John Damis and Roy Williams were very fast in the halfback positions, and Gil Bamford was outstanding as a fullback. Four other sophomores, Mike Adams, Tom Boone, Ted Halaby, and Grady Watts worked more than adequately in the pilot spot.

The junior varsity began its season propitiously, with two decisive victories. Halaby tallied twice to lead the team to a 34-6 win over Newport Naval Station on Oct. 2. Then the jayvees scored four quick touchdowns in the first half to tromp Tufts, 34 to 12.

Dartmouth presented a much tougher problem, but the Crimson squeaked by 7 to 6, as Watts intercepted a pass and ran it 25 yards to the five.

On Nov. 7 the Crimson eleven allowed Princeton only a field goal, as it came up with its fourth consecutive win, 14 to 3, as Williams romped 45 yards for the second TD. Then things began to get rougher, as Penn tied the Crimson 12 to 12 in the rain. And three weeks later Yale marred the J.V.'s undefeated season by delivering a 12-0 defeat.
