Five Crimson Performers to Go In IC4A Championships Tonight

Landau Favored in Hurdles

The Crimson track squad will enter a small but powerful five-man contingent in the IC4A indoor championships tonight at New York's Madison Square Garden. At least four of the five varsity performers should figure in the season's biggest college meet.

Hurdler Joel Landau is the varsity's best bet for a first place. Landau will be facing Georgetown's Al Hoddinott, who edged him out at the wire in last year's finals, but if the Crimson ace keeps his from under control he should come out ahead.

In the dash, University record-holder Sandy Dodge has little chance of beating Villanova's fleet Ed Collymore or Yale's Steve Snyder, but he should take one of the top five places. Jim Doty should finish fourth in the 35-1b. weight throw, behind Ed Bagdonas of Army and Eino Keerd and John Lawlor of B.U.

Jed Fitzgerald will go in the two-mile against a field of unknown quality. Fitzgerald is something of a question mark himself, since he has concentrated on the mile event this winter. The only Crimson entry seemingly involved in a losing cause is captain Al Gordon, who will be up against a brilliant field in the 600.

Yale is the choice to capture the team title, with Army, Manhattan, and sentimental favorite Villanova in challenging positions. The Yale two-mile relay team of Jim Stack, Ed Slowik, Bill Legat, and Tommy Carroll won its race in last week's AAU championships with the amazing time of 7:39.8.

Although he is no longer in college, Ron Delany of Ireland could still steal the show tonight in the special Louis S. Zamperini Mile. Last week, he caught Hungarian Istvan Rozsavolgyi with one of his stirring last-lap charges and finished first in 4:02.5.
