Pusey Hopeful Over Securing MTA Yards

President Pusey yesterday welcomed as heartening the recent statements of the two candidates for Massachusetts governor supporting the sale of the Bennett St. MTA yards to the University.

"We feel more hopeful than we have in a long time," Pusey said about the purchase of a site for the Tenth House. He particularly noted the favorable attitude of the new general manager of the MTA, Thomas J. McLernon.

There is no timetable for the erection of the proposed House, Pusey said. He noted that when it was proposed as part of the Program for Harvard College, he had hoped the House would be ready for occupancy next fall.

Although consideration of plans for converting buildings in the College Yard into Houses has been dropped, members of the Administration are still discussing the possibility of introducing aspects of the House system into the freshman year "within the framework of the freshman class," Dean Bundy said.
