Democrats Allow Primary Support

The Massachusetts Federation of Young Democrats yesterday voted to allow member clubs to endorse gubernatorial and senatorial candidates on their own initiative before or during state primary elections.

Harry F. Greece '63, president of the Young Democratic club of Harvard and Radcliffe, said last night that the resolution was brought before the Federation to clarify what he called "an ambiguous" clause in the organization's constitution concerning the prerogatives of individual clubs.

The 2 to 1 majority vote ended six months of intra-organization bickering that started last spring when the YDCHR endorsed Endicott Peabody and Edward J. McCormark for the gubernatorial and senatorial nominations.

The YDCHR endorsement came several months before the primary elections and set a precedent that many of the members of the National Federation of College Young Democrats felt was harmful to party unity.

Greene said that a similar resolution would be brought up in the forthcoming meeting of the NFCYD, to be held early next year.
