Crimson Lightweights Face Cornell, Penn Today at Ithaca

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The lightweight crew faces Cornell and Penn at Ithaca today in what may be the toughest race of the season, and the team has had to pay its own way to do it.

The oarsmen had first scheduled a contest with a local boat club, but when that was cancelled, they rescheduled a race with Cornell. Because of a cut-back in its budget, however, the Harvard Department of Athletics could not finance the eight-hour bus trip to Ithaca, and the individual rowers, together with the Friends of Harvard Rowing, had to pay for it themselves.

Although the ride is an exhausting one, the lightweights have an excellent chance to defeat the Redmen, who are ranked tops in the East. Before last week the Navy was also rated as a team to beat, and Cornell could easily suffer the same fate as the Middies did against the sophomore-dominated Crimson.

Coach Larry Coolidge will keep together the varsity boat that won last Saturday. The JV's also will meet Cornell and Penn in the first race this afternoon.
