Yovicsin to Unleash Passing Attack Against Bucknell Gridders Saturday

The Harvard passing attack, neglected completely in Saturday's game with Masachusetts, will probably go on this display this week when the Crimson meets Bucknell.

Why should a team that can gain 281 yards on the ground want to pass? Well, coach John Yovicsin, always looking ahead to potential disasters, knows that days will come when the running attack will bog down. "We worked on passing a lot in preseason drills," Yovicsin said. "I'd like to get some passing in a game before the Ivy League season starts."

The Time is Right

This Saturday seems like a good time to try. Bucknell's pass defense leaked badly against Gettysburg Saturday:. Gettysburg quarterback Jim Lord completed 14 to 33 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. The two scores beat Ducknell, 12-7.

Just who will do the passing for Harvard is still a question. John McCluskey practised yesterday and will probably start, but if McCluskey is troubled by the hamstring muscle he pulled against UMass, senior Tom Bilodeau will work.

With senior tackle Neil Curtin out of the game, left guard John Hoffman will definitely become the starting left tackle ahead of sophomore Steve Diamond, who has been slowed by leg injuries.

Gene Skowronski, who was named to the all-East team of the week for his play against UMass, will start at left guard with Bob Barrett, a junior just returning after an injury, backing him up. Barrett turned in an outstanding performance as a sophomore linebacker last year.

Defense Gets Work

The Crimson has drilled continuously on pass defense this week after giving up 150 yards through the air against Massachusetts.

Fullback Pat Conway, a defensive star in high school, may be ready to start at corner linebacker, a new position for him. Paul Guzzi and Jerry Mechling played almost all the way at the corners last week.
