HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
The Radcliffe basketball team played "very well" last week. It beat Brandeis 23-10 in the gymnasium. Miss Ruth Jeffery, Instructor in Sports, said the win was due to "strong guarding and excellent shooting."
Scoring the most points in the game was Melissa D. Brewster '65, who made 12. Others who played well were captain Karla J. Krendl '65, forwards Lucy A. Steele '65, and Patience Outerbridge '67, and guard Claudia Swett '67.
Today the team plays at Wheaton and Friday it plays against Mt. Holyoke in the gymnasium.
Other Quadling sports teams also did well recently. The ski team came in sixth at Intervale on Saturday and fifth at Pleasant Mountain on Sunday. Mary-Elizabeth H. Nelbach '64 had the best time on Saturday, while Winifred Berner '66 did best on Sunday.
B.U. won at Intervale while Wellesley won at Pleasant Mountain.
Others who skied well were Alice G. Ingraham '65 and Leslie Horst '67. There will be another race at Pleasant Mountain this Sunday.
Fencers Tool
Another team also did well. The fencing team won the New England Women's inter-collegiate Fencing Tournament last Sunday. They also won it last year.
Diana L. Bishop '67 was second in the Beginner I classification. Other fencers who did well were Alice G. Belton '67, Lynn M. Selker '65, and Sue Billings '65.
Mrs. Barbara Pillinger, Instructor in Sports, is the fencing team's coach.
There were 77 skiers at the meet. They came from 12 different colleges. Brandeis came in second.
