Croasdale Wins Hammer Throw At Penn Relays

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Art Croasdale got off a 179' 10" toes on his last attempt this afternoon to win the Penn Relays hammer throw.

There were several other good performances in Philadelphia by Crimson athletes but Croasdale's was the only first place. John Bakkenson lost his discus title to Michigan's Ernie Soundek, who won with a throw of 175'3". Bakkenson threw 166'10" for second place.

Tony Lynch snapped a Harvard record with a 2.5 clocking in the 400-meter hurdles 0.8 under Hank Hatch's old mark. Lynch won the unseeded heat of the hurdles, but took only fourth in the event overall. Vla McArdle of Manhattan won in 51.5.

No Crimson broad jumpers placed; Chris Ohiri's 23'5%" leap was good for sixth and Aggrey Awori (23'1 1/2") and Chris Pardee (22'10") were further back.

One encouraging note was Bill Pfeiffer's 160'5" discus throw good for third in the college division. The toes was 10 feet better than Pfeiffer's previous best fort.
