War on Phone Cords Escalated at Radcliffe

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The war against what most Cliffles regard as a symbol of their natural right--the long phone cord--is being waged gain at Radcliffe.

In a directive issued over the weekend to all head residents at Radcliffe, Ralph B. Gates, Director of Buildings and Grounds requested the immediate removal of all phone cards over six feet long Buildings and Grounds employees and insurance inspectors had spent the previous week making a list of which rooms have he cords.

Gates explained yesterday that it is Radcliffe's insurance company which objects to the cords. He said that when they are stretched between rooms and across halls the cords establish "a serious tripping condition."

Buildings and Ground banned the cords last spring, but no action was taken when Cliffies refused to remove them. Gates declined to say yesterday whether any strong measures would be taken this year, but warned that a second inspection is scheduled for "late this month."
