Ski Team Blows Nationals Chance

The ski team failed to earn an invitation to the NCAA nationals at the Middlebury meet last weekend.

The duel for fifth place between Harvard and Williams provided the only suspense of the meet. For the first time this season, the Crimson Alpine team skied well in both the slalom (91.41 points) and the downhill (94.32 points). Williams, plagued by falls, gained only 77.87 points in the slalom.

Paced by Jon Chaffe's second place finish, the Nordic team captured fourth place and an additional 92.16 points in the cross-country event. Chaffe's race earned him an invitation to compete as an individual in the NCAA meet at Crested Butte, Colorado.

Williams picked up 23 more points than Harvard did in the jump event. This enabled Williams to beat the Crimson by eight points in the final results.
