Soc Sci 1 Section Man Beaten, Robbed by Unidentified Assailants

Summer Benson, a section man in Soc Sci 1, was jumped and robbed late Friday night.

Benson was walking home at about 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Trowbridge St. and Broadway, when two or three men grabbed him around the head and neck and gave him a bloody nose and black eye.

Benson, who never saw the faces of his attackers, then began to shout for help. One of the assailants, whom Benson thought by his voice to be in his late teens, said, "This is a gun, this is a gun, shut up!" Benson thought he saw something metal waved beside his face and quieted down.

The lead attacker then asked Benson to hand over his wallet. "No, I'll just give you the money instead," Benson said.

He handed over about $35 in bills to the robbers, who told him to face a building on the corner while they fled.

A man who had heard the shouts came out of his house and saw Benson, badly beaten. Before aiding him, he asked for Benson's bursar's card as there had evidently been recent street-fighting in the area.

The man then took Benson upstairs to his apartment, where they called the police. The police arrived, questioned Benson, and took him to the emergency room in Holyoke Center where he was treated for bruises and a possible broken nose, and released.
