Yardlings Crush Exeter Gridders

Ted Demer's touchdown run of three yards in the first period Saturday was all the Harvard freshmen needed, but they added 34 points for security's sake, in a 40-0 victory over Exeter Academy at Exeter.

Barry Malinowsky was the next to score as he intercepted a pass and ran 60 yards into the end zone. The conversion kick failed for the second time.

Steve Hail ran for two touchdowns, one on a 56-yard scamper, and Rod Foster rushed for another. Quarterback Frank Guerna, a graduate of Exeter, threw a 35-yard pass to Ed Degeronimo for a tally earlier in the game. The Crimson was shut out in the fourth quarter, however.

The game was listed on the Harvard schedule as a B squad contest, but coach Henry Lamar used a cross section of his players. It was the first game for this year's Yardlings, who officially start their season at 3 p.m. Friday against Columbia in Cambridge.

Exeter is not having one of its better years, and Lamar indicated that Saturday's game did not help him make many decisions about how he will use his personnel.
