Harvard Student Becomes Old Prep School Trustee

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Richardson W, Schell '73 has become the youngest alumnus ever to serve on the Kent School Board of Trustees. The Board met on November 7 and elected Schell to a six year term as a trustee of the Connecticut preparatory school.

Schell's chief qualification was his experience last year as senior prefect of the Class of 1969. The other twelve trustees. however include corporation presidents, college administrators, and distinguished alumni.

"Our headmaster and the board decided that the trustees should examine student concerns as well as finance and investment," Schell said. "This isn't a move to quell any rising student opposition. They just think I'm closer to the students than they are," he added.

Schell has been somewhat apprehensive about the reaction of his Harvard classmates to his new unsalaried position.

"A letter from a Kent faculty member advised me to burn my Kent newspaper clippings so my friends won't find out that I've become a solid member of the establishment at the age of 18," Schell said.
