The National Organization for Women (NOW) urged the "immediate resignation" of F. Skiddy von Stade Jr. '38, Dean of Freshmen and Master of Mather House, in a letter sent to President Pusey last Saturday.
The organization described von Stade's letter about the education of women at Harvard as "irresponsible and totally lacking in judgment or balance.
"It is both shocking and outrageous that such a statement could be made by an officer of a University charged with the responsibility of educating women, on the undergraduate as well as graduate level.
"We feel there is no legitimate place for an official harboring such prejudices about women," the statement concluded.

In another letter, to appear in Friday's CRIMSON, NOW says that von Stade's opinions are important "not as one man's personal views, but as a uniquely honest exposition of the opinions shared by high officials of the Harvard Administration."
The letter states that the "implications should be clear for such current issues as merger, increasing the size of female graduate enrollment and hiring more female faculty members."
