Speculation on the teams to join defending champion Harvard in the New England district playoffs of the NCAA Intercollegiate Soccer Championships is altered after the announcement by Tufts, Williams, Wesleyan, and Springfield to refrain from national post-season competition.
Bridgeport, rated number four in the area, and Brown, ranked fifth in New England, are almost assured spots in the playoff along with the region's top team. Harvard. But, with the absence of the second, third, sixth, and seventh ranked teams, the fourth spot in the competition is in doubt.
Vermont, rated eighth with a 10-2-0 record, presently has the best chance of gaining the position, while New Haven, one notch below Vermont in the poll with an 11-3-1 mark, is the darkhorse.
