The History department will move its offices and library into Robinson Hall by next October, department chairman Bernard Bailyn said yesterday.
"Robinson will provide us with several seminar rooms and a permanent residence for the Charles Warren Center for American History," Bailyn said.
Robinson has housed the Graduate School of Design (GSD) since 1905. The GSD is leaving the building for new, larger quarters across the street in Gund Hall, H. James Brown, assistant professor for City and Regional Planning at the GSD, said yesterday.
Brown noted that the GSD could not start vacating Robinson until construction ends on Gund, possibly this spring.
"After the GSD leaves, Robinson will have to be renovated before we can inhabit the hall," Bailyn said, "Although an architect has been hired for the job, we're not sure how long it will take. It could run on into the fall."
